Why should your business have a website?
For a small business owner or medium-sized company, your business image is vital to the success of your company, and just as important as a large corporation's image. Having a company website can visually display and define your business image in a professional manner. A website shows that your company is forward thinking and up-to-date with the latest business trends. Cost Effective The Internet is one of the most cost effective means to advertise your company and products to the masses. Your website can reduce costs by answering frequently asked questions, providing detailed location, driving directions, and contact information. It can be used to post items for sales (and those that have sold!) issue press releases, display company policies, and provide a line of contact into your company 24 hours, 7 days a week through the use of online forms that send you an email. An online catalog can reduce printing costs. An online store can reduce your monthly fees of having a "brick and mortar" storefront. Having a website can further reduce costs by eliminating much of the overhead associated with fulfilling these tasks by an employee. Improved Customer Confidence Today, more and more consumers are turning to the Internet to find a company or product. While many continue to use traditional methods (newspapers, yellow pages, telephone, printed advertisements, word of mouth), a growing number of prospective customers in addition will search the Internet or visit a company website to learn more about a business and its products & services. Convenience The Internet is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This convenience is very appealing and allows consumers to use the Internet at any time for many reasons. They can find information on just about anything they are interested in, including what your company has to offer. Review the top questions I'm always asked.
Is a website a good investment? It depends on your circumstances. If you spend virtually nothing on advertising and still have more than enough clients and customers, a website may not be needed. But then again, who wouldn't want more customers? Now there are other reasons to have a website besides increasing your customer base. One is quite frankly the prestige of having your own site. Another is having a resource for your current customer base, who can reference any information you want them to regarding your services, such as your hours, etc.. But for the most part, finding new customers and supplying valuable information to your existing customers are the main reasons to have a website. Relative to almost any other form of advertising, the cost of having a website up is extremely low. Your site will be up 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, all accessible to anyone with Internet access. 2. Will I get listed in the Search Engines? Getting listed on the search engines is a very important aspect of maintaining a web-site.I will submit your site to the top search engines, however, this is an ongoing process. Most search engines rebuild/reindex on a monthly basis (or every other month), therefore, it may take a while for your site to show up, and it may be way down the list. There are ways to increase your position, and I will go over these with you. 3. Am I locked into anything after the site is built? No,
the site is yours. I can update the site for you if needed, but my
rates for any work done past the website's initial creation have to
remain very competitive. And they are. :) Many sites are up for years
with no or maybe the most minimal changes--different hours or prices,
etc.. Unless you want to add a whole new stage of functionality to
your site, such as a shopping cart, future modifications are easy
and can normally be done within 7 days. If you are providing a service,
you should strive to constantly add to your site for your customers.
After all, if your customer has viewed your site a couple of times,
and you don't add more information for them, then there is no need
for them to revisit your site. This is exactly what you do not want
to happen. 4. What is needed on my part? I
know how to build the site and to some extent how to optimize any
Internet marketing thrust to best advantage for your business, but
you, not I, are the expert in what you do. For the most part, I will
be relying on you for site text, and the general vision of what you
want the site to accomplish. I do the rest, and will even help you
with the text if needed. |
